Clara Conversations

Here are a few of my recent favorite conversations with Clara (check out the first few posts about our chats here, here, and here). We tend to think she gives funny gals like Amy Poehler a run for their money (or should I say, a run for their monies?) but we might be biased…

Convo #1:
Daddy (while pointing to a ferret at Petco): Do you know what that is?
Clara: Ooh, a polar bear!!!!

Convo #2:
Mommy: Are you going to be a good girl in the store?
Clara: I’ll be good. No screaming. Thank you. You’re welcome.

Convo #3:
Mommy (while paying with Clara’s play kitchen): Ooh did you make me a sandwich? Is it yummy?
Clara: Yes! It’s a-licious!

Convo #4:
Clara: Snuggle in my crib with me!
Mommy: I’m too big for your crib.
Clara: I’m getting bigger. You’re getting so tiny!
(*She totally Benjamin Buttoned me. Does she think old people shrink while young people grow?)

Convo #5:
Clara (singing): I’m a little teapot, short and shout, here is my cupcake, here is my shout.

We’re In The Monies

Clara’s a big fan of the concept of money (aren’t we all?). For example, when we go to Target or to get gas she always says “we have to pay with the monies.” She also seems to like playing with quarters and other coins on occasion (always under our supervision so nothing goes in the mouth), so when it came time to turn our piggy bank and other loose change into cash (via our grocery store’s Coinstar machine) I enlisted our little banker-in-the-making’s assistance to transfer all of our hard earned “monies” into a plastic bag to take with us. Update: to those who don’t think Coinstar is a good frugal option since they take a fee, they actually don’t take any fee if you choose the gift card option, so we get a gift card to a place that we regularly buy things (ex: Old Navy, amazon.com, etc) and we don’t lose a penny by using Coinstar. Just a little insider tip for ya!

Oh, and to explain the system a bit more, I shook out the piggy bank into the first empty box I could find in our to-be-recycled pile (an empty Ziploc box). And since I didn’t want to roll up to Coinstar with a Ziploc box full of coins, I asked Clara to help me put them into a plastic bag. Oh yeah, and the fact that Rachael Ray tried to get her mug all over this next video is a total coincidence.

Update: For those in complete and utter suspense, she did find the teeny tiny one, there was just some snot going on when that happened, hence the video cutting off. But she got it done!

And if any of you follow us on Instagram, you may have already connected the dots that this was the Coinstar trip that helped us discover the Tanzanian shillings that we mysteriously had in our possession. Still can’t figure out where these came from…

26 Months

Yeah, so we’re over a week behind on taking Clara’s 26 month photo. Funny how vacation (plus coming home to a sudden book deadline) can throw you for a loop. But here’s the picture that we literally snapped just two hours ago. Warning: my girl is in full diva mode.

We figured we’d let Clara show off the temporary tattoo she got from the 5K that John did this weekend (more on that later). It says “RAD” and Clara is so obsessed with it that we can’t bring ourselves to wash it off quite yet…

We thought this photo needed some sunglasses to really complete the look-how-cool-I-am vibe the tattoo was giving her.

We were this close to picking the picture below as our official 26 months pic, since it almost feels like she’s giving us a “You looking at me?” face. Or in the words of $herdog: an “and what?” face. Anyone remember “and what?” or is that just a Jersey thing?

Oh yeah, there’s definitely some attitude going on here.

Actually, the fun thing about this particular photo session is that Clara is starting to take direction really well. And by direction I mean that I was playing stage mom behind John as he snapped photos by posing and saying “Can you do this?” and she would try to mimic me. It was adorable and such a different experience from her weekly photos within the first year, where she just flailed and did cute things like yawning and stretching as we snapped away from above.

It was seriously like our own little episode of Toddler & Tiaras. And I’ll admit it, it scared me a little. Haha.

Clara was surprisingly into it. Should we be worried?
