The White Stuff
Last Thursday night Richmond got its first snowfall of the year, so we woke up to this on Friday morning:

It wasn’t a whole lot (maybe 2 inches?) and since we were coming off of four straight days of rain and cloudy skies, the sun was almost more exciting than the snow itself. But since winter weather isn’t really guaranteed in Richmond every year, we jumped at the chance for Clara to clock some snow time.

For the first time ever we even broke out the sled (a hand-me-down from my parents) so Clara could experience the thrill of racing down a big hill being slowly dragged by her father.

The reason it has taken so long for the bean to get her sled on is because we barely got any snow last year (only one dusting I think?) and she was too young the year before when we seemed to get a ton of it.

She quickly got jealous of my job as “sled puller” and asked to switch.

Oh, and here’s a picture from last year’s brief appearance of snow. You can see that Clara’s snow outfit hasn’t changed that dramatically in 12 months. Although I think her boots are about five sizes bigger.

We actually just inherited a full body snowsuit from my cousin, so we’re ready for a blizzard. Bring it on January!

Feel free to come visit the Midwest and we will hook you up with as much winter weather as you could want. Snow yesterday, a high of 2 degrees today…the fun never stops! :)
Oh wow, and here I was complaining about tomorrow’s forecasted high of 31!
-John
Oh man, a high of 31?! Today in Ottawa it’s -18.4 degrees (Fahrenheit)and it’s supposed to be about that cold all week!
Bring on the long underpants!
And here I was feeling a little chilly in the 64 degree Northern California “winter”. ;)
That fox hat is absolutely adorable. Where is it from? I’m constantly crocheting owl, fox, and bunny hats for friends and family :)
Target!
-John
We put our little girl out there real quick on Friday morning before it melted too! She was fine to stand in it but wouldn’t touch it! Maybe by our next snow next year she will like it.
Somehow in Chicago we still haven’t had any snow (now a record), but it’s a tad more nippy here – may have -10 windchill this evening. I think I like your weather a bit better at the moment.
BTW, I’m sure you’ve noticed another lady in the blogosphere styling bangs – the First Lady. Boy, Sherry – one little hair cut and look what happens!
Haha!

How cute… love her hats.
Up here in Alberta,Canada we just finished a cold snap of -30 degrees celsius (I’m not too sure what it is in F )Thanks for sharing your pics…brings back memories when my kids are small!!Here’s hoping that OUR snow will not last past April (we’ve had snow since October!)Best wishes to you and your family!!!!
Ohhhhh I wish we would get some of that snow :)
No, no, no! Don’t bring it on! I live about 2 seconds from y’all and HATE snow! LOL Let’s just PRETEND it snows a lot instead, eh? (Although, my daughter has an adorable snowsuit too, and I did enjoy getting her into it on Friday!)
After some real sledding down a hill at my parents over Christmas, my 2.5 year old was very disappointed in the “sledding” at home on Friday. We’re going to have to find a hill for him because being pulled by Daddy isn’t cutting it!
Clara looks so much like Sherry in the first picture of her in the sled!
That is a precious hat she is wearing!!!
By the way, anytime you want to send some true winter weather my way (Pensacola, FL), it would be so welcome. My husband and I LOVE cold weather and still scratch our heads as to how/why we ended up in The Sunshine State.
Please, take our weather! Right now where I live (Manitoba, Canada) it’s -43 celcius with the windchill and there’s about 2 feet of snow ;)
Just got to Richmond today, too bad I missed the snow!
Clara is adorable in her winter gear, and good thinking to get her out in the snow now in case we don’t get any more this year. Does burger enjoy the snow as much as Clara does? Our dog loves playing and taking walks whenever we get a few inches.
He hates the cold. I think he’s a cat.

Sherry, our dog is about Burger’s size and also hats the cold. Year’s ago my Dad started saying, “Roxy is NOT dog, she’s a cat in drag.”
She’s also a power naper and sun worshiper. Dad may be on to something.
I chuckle jut reading these comments. . . I live in Northern Ontario, Canada, and this week we have had dumping upon dumping of snow and temperatures ranging from -30 to -40 celsius (-22 to -40 Fahrenheit)!
Clara’s snow outfit would be appropriate for early September around here! ;)
My little man loves to make snow angel (but calls them snow bats since he is into Batman BIG TIME!).
Only problem is that it is SUPER cold up here so I bundle him up so much that he ends up looking like that kid on Christmas story…..at least he won’t get frost bite. :-)
Fun! Looks like snow-time is also adorable-hat-time! Send some of that weather down to Tampa, please :) I’d love to have an excuse to wear a furry hat.
It’s snows quite a few times here in PA. I’ll take my daughter out in it for a bit but we get too cold fast. She has the same hat as Clara! I saw it at target and had to have it. I have fox love!
We have the same vest for our little one. Go Old Navy!
Oh my, be careful what you wish for… but then again, you don’t need to leave the house to go to work :) LOL
Oh, full body snowsuits. So many memories of childhood in New Jersey. And now I’m having flashbacks to the blizzard of ’96. Glad Clara got to enjoy the snow! (Although suddenly it’s way too cold in VA!! I’m ready for spring.)
Too funny! “Although I think her boots are about five sizes bigger.” Clara’s feet look teeny tiny in last year’s pic!
If you get to use that snowsuit, I’m counting on a remix of Randy “I Can’t Put My Arms Dowwwn!!” Parker from the Christmas Story movie…..
Haha!

I love Richmond and our panic over snow. But it makes it especially delightful when we get it.
I love reading posts like this. I’m in San Diego and its 75 today. No chance of snow here!
I keep forgetting to say something about how Michelle Obama TOTALLY COPY-CATTED you with the whole “bangs” thing. Sure, now, everybody’s going to copy-cat her, but WE KNOW WHO DID IT FIRST!
Way to rock the style world, $herdog!
Haha, I wish she read our little ol’ blog!

They are calling for more snow this Friday- though there is also some ice in the forecast….
Eeks!

Totally unrelated but I thought of Sherry yesterday when I was in Bethenny Ever After marathon heaven on cold day off of work. I hope you caught a few episodes!
Oh man I totally did. So sad now that she and Jason aren’t together :(

I love that kids can usually get a couple years out of a winter coat. One less thing to buy! I’m a little jealous of your weather..In Ontario we’re currently in the midst of a snow storm & it’s -27 with the wind chill.
Can’t wait to see Clara in her full body snowsuit. They always remind me of Randy from a Christmas Story :).
I love the snow! I’m from Manitoba so that is just a given!!
Right now we are in a cold snap…in F it would be -17 with a windchill of -25. A good night to cozy up inside!
Yay for snow! I’m a Minnesotan (though I’m currently living in Des Moines, IA) and I just love snow. I’ll keep my fingres crossed for you guys that if you do get your blizzard your power stays on too. Blizzards are so much sweeter when you have a warm home and a cup of hot chocolate to warm you after a good romp in the snow. Have fun!!
Looks like it was fun to enjoy your blessing of snow. We recently moved south and Iam missing the snow. I’m happy to see someone enjoying it as I do!
It’s been overly warm and we have too many mosquitoes, fleas, gnats and such. Enjoy your cool weather!
We’ve had snow pretty much non-stop since last Friday, which is a bit unusual for where I live.
It’s really nice to see Clara having fun in the snow, some of my favourite memories are of playing in the snow :D
Our teen visited over Winter Break from NoVA and asked for snow. We had a week of snow in Utah and he was thrilled!
He built a 10-foot snow cave that still stands, and made another at his cousin’s house. Unfortunately he didn’t meet the requirements for a Merit Badge, but his joy was a wonderful gift to all!
I always think of the Billy Collins poem that starts:
I woke up this morning to a revolution of snow!
I love how when someone posts about winter weather, all us Canadians are eager to brag (or moan) about ours! Hahaha! Clara is adorbs. Did her winter coat fit her from last year? Lucky!
So I happened on this blog totally by chance, I think I searched for “world market, crate and barrel” I was looking for lists of similar stores that I hadn’t scowered for rugs that my husband and I might actually agree on! So I was totally psyched to find your blog. Then as i was about to close the window I saw Richmond and i was like “hey that is where i live” So I was already plotting in my mind all my friends that I would tell about this cool new blog I found”….then i realized the name of the blog and the book and all the people that had already told ME about it! So by happenstance I found your very cool blog that a butt load of people had already told me about! So thanks for what you are doing! It is helping me already. You Rock, I love the SNOW, your daughter is adorable, i love her smile, Sorry I don’t make much sense, thanks for putting Richmond back on the map!
Her little hats are just the sweetest. :-) Love these pictures!
Ha, here in Siberacuse, I mean Syracuse, snowfall is not a moment for celebration, it is a major bummer. The wind chill ( which just made it feel like 20 below )is an extra treat. But hey, enjoy!
Greetings from the soon-to-be frozen north! We are expecting anywhere between 18 and 36 inches of snow in Boston tomorrow, so we are making last minute runs to the grocery store for what remains of the milk. I just had a quick question…where did you get Clara’s sled? That looks amazing and I would love to find one like it. Thanks and stay warm!
That was from John’s mom, but I think she got it from Home Depot or Costco. Good luck and stay warm!
