Morning Routine
As we mentioned in today’s post on Young House Love, Clara uses her play kitchen just about every single day. Usually it’s in the morning after we first get up (and she’s at her chattiest). Sometimes we make food. Sometimes her stuffed animals get a bath in the sink. You know, normal stuff.

Clara is beyond adorable!! Riley and I (she was the Riley from Cincinnati) want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year!
Awww, tell Riley Clara says “Hi!” and “Merry Christmas!”
-John
She is SO stinking cute and so imaginative! I told my husband I wanted to get a play kitchen for our son next year (he’s 12 months old now), and he acted shocked and said, “for a boy?!” Um, yes. Guys cook!
My son has a play kitchen and he loves to play with it. Usually he’s putting his trains or balls in the dishwasher or sink, bu sometimes he “cooks” pancakes, meatballs or spinach!
Cute post! Such a smart, sweet girl!
The stuffed animal on the changing pad time, WITH wipe and fold back legs, is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!
Haha, that part cracks me up too.

Oh my goodness I actually laughed so hard at that part! Good thing she says please!
LOVED that part the most!!! So funny!!! L.O.L.
I can’t handle this…it feels like yesterday was her first birthday and NOW she is like a little girl!!! She is growing up so fast!!
You are both such wonderful parents. And John, I am very impressed and think you are one spectacular Dad to Clara. Not a lot of men play with their daughters like this, most of them sit on the couch! Haha! But seriously, you are both just great parents and I truly enjoy seeing you with Clara. She is a lucky girl to have you as her parents, and you are both so lucky to have such a special and beautiful little girl.
Many virtual hugs,
Melissa Ricci
Awww, thanks Melissa. It’s hard to feel confident that you’re being the best parent you can be sometimes so it really helps to hear you say that. Much appreciated!
-John
It also really helps someone without kids yet to know that parents sometimes feel that way too! I’ve had people tell me they think I’ll be a great mom (including my husband, who I think will be a great dad) but sometimes it’s hard not to worry and wonder about how you’ll do when it comes to raising another human being. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way sometimes, but it’s just nice to hear (read) too that even parents have doubts sometimes!
By the way, I see you both as really good parents. John, I think this video right here proves why a lot of us think you’re a great Dad. I’m sure you get bored sometimes, or frustrated, angry, etc. but these little moments like this are what makes parents memorable in a great way.
Looks like that girl is ready to be the Big Sister :)
“because he has poops” …ah yes, he has poops. SO CUTE!
She is the most adorable little chittlin on the internet! You guys are such great parents, and I love that she gives her stuffed animals baths like you all give Burger baths :)
Just too cute for words.
Such an imagination on that girl! Cute video!!
Oh my gosh I just about died laughing when she asked John for a wipe. Haha she is so cute.
hahaha..super cute!Do you guys still use the white noise thingy ? How did you use it when clara was a baby ? Did it really help her fall asleep ?
Oh yeah, we still swear by it. Clara loves it too. She calls it her “ocean” and if we forget to put it on she asks for it.
-John
What is that speaker? We are in the market for new speakers that charge our iPod too. Do you remember where you got it? Thanks!
We got it from H.H. Gregg here in Richmond. It was the last one in stock so I’m not sure if it’s sold anymore (it was the floor model), but I believe it’s made by iHome.
-John
HA HA I can’t sleep without my noise machine…….and I am a grammy. It has batteries, for the nights that the lights go out. LOL
I meant to put that comment about the sound machine here, OY!!!
So very cute!!
I’m pretty sure she’ll call you out on that cart!! She is smart as a whip!
My 5 year old son said “why does she talk like a cowboy?” lol…we are canadian though!
LOLOL! We do crack up that her “yeah” is two syllables: “yay-uh.” Not sure where she gets that…
-John
She’s so polite! I teach preschool and it’s great to hear someone Clara’s age using please and asking nicely (instead of just demanding!).
Clara is SO cute! She is very blessed as well to have such great parents that make her such cool kitchens. Makes me wanna pretend kitchen play too yet I have a stack of mile high dishes in my real grown up kitchen currently that I’d rather not clean. Merry Christmas to all! Excited to meet you in Charlotte in February!!!
I love how at the beginning of the video Clara says, “Not gonna eat the water!” Haha. And if you guys ever decide to add to your family in the future, it looks like Clara has got the diaper changing routine down pat!
Yeah, that’s a lesson repeated from bathtime where we have to remind someone that she shouldn’t drink the bath water! :)
-John
There are times I feel totally unprepared for parenthood in the sense that I don’t think now that I would have to remind another human not to drink the bath water. I’m cracking up laughing. I love it.
Dying over the “poops” and the wipe! What a funny gal you two are raising. She is going to love her fridge – I myself, would like to play at her kitchen. It’s much more fun than my grown-up kitchen :) Sending lots of Merry Christmas wishes from the Rockies! Wish you guys were headed this way on your tour.
Gosh, I love imagination. That kid is so smart! I love how once the lotion is applied, game over. Everything is in its place and it’s time to eat.
SO CUTE! Clara definitely wins cutest kid award today. :)
She is just too cute! I love the diaper change. My 2 1/2 yr old son was watching the video with me, then he pointed to your picture on the front of your book which is on the table next to where we were watching the video and says “dats clara’s mommy and daddy!” he loves watching clara videos. Does she by any chance ask you for lunch in the mornings (instead of breakfast)? my son has started doing that – every morning he gets up and asks for lunch – well, now he asks for the tree to be lit up, then he asks for lunch.
Oh yeah, just about every meal is “lunch” around here. We’re still working on “the food you eat in the morning is breakfast” and “the meal when it’s dark is called dinner.”
-John
My 2 year old daughter calls every meal “lunch” too! Must be a toddler thing :)
yeah, legs up and wipe. she can rule the world now. next up asking for the car keys.
She is so adorable! My daughter say’s “oh no” the exact.same.way! Always dramatic and drawn out– “ooooh nooo!” :)
Such great manners! Always using “please!” Well done, Clara :)
So adorable! Seeing all the cute Clara videos and pictures is so not helping with the Baby Fever!
John is such a great dad. I love it when Clara says “Yea-uh!” No doubt she learned that from Sherry’s coolness. You guys are awesome! XOXO
My daughters (they are a 364 days younger than Clara) really enjoyed watching Clara play with her kitchen. We are hoping they enjoy their kitchen from Santa just as much as Clara enjoy’s hers.
That is the sweetest thing! She is precious!
It’s so fun to see that Clara and my daughter (who is the same age) are so similar. She also loves her play kitchen and she also likes to diaper her toys. I sewed her some doll diapers and she uses those. Every time she takes one off she says “Dude, that’s a lot of pee.”
Hahahahah!

She is just the sweetest little thing! I love the part when she asks for lotion and there’s a pause and then Johns like “ok a little bit” I love it! Merry Christmas to you and your precious family!
Gah, this is too adorable. John, you are such a sweet Dad!!
I don’t comment often, but this video of Clara had me laughing while drinking my coffee. It will still be a while before we have kids, but moments like this make me so excited (even though I know it’s not all fun). She is just so sweet! I would love to see a post someday where you talk about how you taught her manners. I know you all say she has her toddler moments, but it seems like the most part you are all firm yet fun with her. Thanks for sharing this video. Love the poops she cleans up!
because he has poops! HAHAHA! great imagination, that kiddo :)
I wish I could clean out my sink that easily!! Hahaha
I love how she carries G by the neck, thwacks him onto the changing pad & then, oh so carefully, cleans up his poops. She is awesome. I really miss this age.
This video totally made my day!
Love the cleaning of the poops! And at the end she’s totally engrossed in lotioning her arms and then is like, “Wait a minute. Is he still watching me? … Yup…” then casually walks out of frame!
Sherry, she REALLY looks like you! I know the light hair is all John, but her face is totally like her mama :-) She’s adorable, and I love seeing all the funny videos you post of her. What an imaginative and sweet little girl. I don’t have kids yet, but I really look forward to that stage, and thank you for sharing Clara with us!
So cute – I love how she says “that’s okay…it’s fine” too cute.
It’s so adorable how she goes from “ohh noooo my lunch fell down” to a parent-y “it’s ok, it’s fine, G..” Love it!
So adorable! You can see how much she has grown since Christmas last year (the video) based on how high the sink is today!
She is adorable! I hope that when I have kids I’m as good of a parent as you two are and that my daughter is as fun and respectful! Clara has such a great imagination I want to come over and play with her!
Hahaha, I’m dying! I love how she’s reassuring herself – “it’s fine, it’s okay, it’s fine!”
My son just turned 1 year at the end of Nov. and we got him the Ikea play kitchen for Christmas. I mean, he asked Santa for a play kitchen… The Ikea one is SO cute – I put it together myself yesterday. It doesn’t have t fridge either, so I have DIY plans to add one!! Thanks as always for the inspiration!!
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to you!
I’m loving all the pleases (is that the plural?)! It’s nice to see well manners in action! Props to you Clara! :)
So all summer I was pinning play kitchens on pinterest and am obsessed with making one for our son who just turned two- thanks to your post from last year and this latest one- i think i might be able to do it- as long as I can find a way to borrow some wood cutting tools…. it might be over my head but I cannot wait to try it- I know that my little guy would LOVE it! Thanks for the inspirations- here’s hoping I can convince my husband that this project is in our scope of ability! Also Clara is the cutest!
John = best dad ever. I was laughing so hard when she politely sort of yells, “Daddy, can I have a wipe, please?” So cute, thanks for sharing.
THAT was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! You really have the smartest and most adorable daughter ever. She really is wonderful. I think you need to write a parenting book next. Honestly, I know it’s not all sunshine and rainbows when your raising a child, but you’re doing something right.
Seriously laughed out loud when she flipped Gee’s legs over & started wiping his rear end!
The play food stored in the sink tells you she is in desperate need of a refrigerator!
Clara is such a good little Momma to Gee! how cute. She is such a sweetheart, can’t wait to see her reaction to her new refrigerator and cart :) And I’m sure in a few months Gee will be really plumping up after all that lunch Clara is making him :P Can I ask where you got that vinyl type cover on the changing pad?
It was part of a Skip Hop portable diaper changing kit that we got at Babies R Us a while back. We just liked the cover so much that we used it at home rather than leaving it in the car.
-John
Writing from Ireland, I have to admit I get an immature giggle whenever that adorable giraffe is referred to in type. DON’T google from work, however. At least the pronunciation is different!
Maybe it’s an Ireland google thing? Haha! We just get this: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gee
Now I’m curious…
xo
s
Oh oh oh my. I just googled “what does gee mean in irish”. Ahhg. Um…well. *scratches head*. Let’s just be out with it:
It’s a slang term for lady bits. The one *points down* in that vicinity.
Haha, no way!!!

This is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. I love how she mimics you guys with the diaper change and telling G, “that’s okay”. Adorable. Merry Christmas!
I love seeing videos of Clara! She is so smart and imaginative ;-) And I just love that she still has the monkey apron I made her ;-) I’m so honored! Lol
I just realized how much you all have become part of our family when I was watching Clara’s morning ritual above and my husband comes down the stairs ready to go to work, hears Clara’s voice and asks, “What’s Clara doing?” Is that funny or scary? Either way, we are big fans!
I think that is adorable!
