Don’t You Leave Me Brokenhearted
It’s not news that Clara likes to sing. And her repertoire consists mostly of the top 40 hits that she hears in the car. So should we be surprised when she went on a little Karmin-fest at my Granny’s house when we were there to makeover her bathroom? She seems to be a big fan of the of the chorus – especially the “Nooo, noooo, nooo, no” part at the end.
In case you’re not familiar with the song, you can listen to it here. We think Clara’s version gives them a run for their money…

The little diapered butt sliding down the stairs just kills me. Too cute.
Me and my girls LOVE that song too! Just love Clara’s version though :) I still remember my then two year old singing ‘You’re Beautiful’ by James Blunt – just made me smile :)
Haha, so cute!

Clara videos totally make my day, thanks for sharing them!
SO cute!! Is Clara using the zip ties as drum sticks?
I think they were straws actually. Ha! She’s so funny.

i love this so much that i will probably tell my friends and they will tell me how much more i like you guys then i like them (again.) haha :)
Hilarious! We’re cracking up over here.

Haha! My two year old girl Ryan loves that album. She was singing “I’m Just Sayin” over and over in the tub last night!
Haha, so cute!

OMG, too cute! I love it!
I love that song =) I actually went to high school with Nick from Karmin! We were in band together and were both on the swim team. It’s nice to see everyone can relate to their songs =D
No way! Someone else a little later (I’m doing comments backwards, haha) said they knew Amy from high school! Such a small world!

It’s so awesome that she loves singing and dancing so much! :D
I cannot believe how good her pitch control is! She is so talented, so glad you all have her in a music class :) Did she get any rug burn on her little knees?
Haha, thankfully not. It’s really soft and shaggy so she loved sliding on it.

She is too adorable!! And not the least bit camera shy! My daughter likes to sing Taylor Swift, if I tried to record it though she’d probably run to her room and lock the door haha
Too cute! She’s on the move…. and sure loves those stairs. Love her lil skirt.
I love how she cautiously checks the steps as she’s sliding down. My son would fly down and ask questions at the ER. Her legs are so so long too! Such a doll.
My 5 year old watched this and said, “aww! She is so cute!” Isn’t it funny the songs kids like? My son, unfortunately, likes to sing “Red Solo Cup.” Of course, he also likes “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Lol
haha!

It’s made all the better by the straw accompaniment and stair sliding. Adorable!
This kid cracks me up!
Oh, my goodness, this is adorable. I am impressed that she is also holding straws (?) and kind of drumming at the same time. Percussion while singing is difficult! You may have a musical genius on your hands. :)
Haha! Ya never know…
xo
s
And she’s a lefty too – just thinking, Phil Collins is left-handed, drums and sings. Just saying! Now that Ithink of it, I think Paul McCartney has also played drums a bit – and sings and is left handed. Not bad footsteps to follow in, IMO!
Don’t get me all excited. Love me some Paul McCartney! Haha.

Clara is so adorable! It’s a totally surreal moment for me, I went to high school with Amy from Karmin and it’s so crazy to see her mentioned on my favorite blog and in Rolling Stone! I love your blog, can’t wait for the book!
No way! We love her!

I went to high school with Nick and they are going to be the grand marshals in my hometown Riverfest parade this weekend! I’m so happy for them! I met Amy while she’s was still in college when Nick’s sister and I went to visit him. She is such a sweetheart. This success couldn’t have happened to two nicer people =)
No way! That’s so cool.

She is such a sweet and happy little girl. You both should be so proud :-)
Just wanted to let you know that the first time I clicked over here a pop up add jumped up in front. I think it was for smart water or glacier something… I closed the window and re-clicked the link and it wasn’t there the second time. I know you guys don’t approve those types of adds.
I’ll have to watch the video at home. My work blocks them so all I get in their place is a blank space. :( Sounds cute though!
Ugh! Thanks for the tip! We’ll have to hunt it down! Anyone else seeing it! Tell us if you ever see a pop up because they’re never authorized and sometimes we have no idea they’re there! Thanks everyone.

Now she just needs to learn the “that’s right, cheerio” part…that would be hilarious coming out of her little mouth :)
Her legs are SO long. It would be awesome if she ended up super tall, and a sibling got the short gene. My sister would debate that this is funny, because we’re roughly 4 inches apart and it drives her nuts, but I love it.
Haha, it’s so true. I keep worrying a future child will have me to blame if he or she isn’t as blessed with those long legs that Clara got from daddy.

My brother totally takes after my mom’s side of the family (and looks like a spitting image of my grandfather even) and is 6’3″. I, however, take after my great-aunt on my dad’s side of the family (with longer legs thankfully from my mom’s side of the family). It means I’m 5’6″ (and my parents are 5’10″ and 5’11″). To add to the fun? I have 2 half-sisters from my dad’s first marriage (first wife shorter than me). One sister is shorter than me, other sister is 5’8″ and is still surprised that she’s taller than me. Heights are weird things!
SO funny! You’re right about heights being completely mysterious things!
xo

Her version is so much better!
Oh goodness, she’s so adorable. I used to love sliding on the stairs, but I think sliding while singing adds another level of difficulty.
“Noo- ::bump:: -oooo ::bump:: – ooo!”
She is too flippin’ cute! I love it.
Haha! I’m pregnant right now and I was singing this song the other day around my 2 year old and when I got to the “I’ve been waiting all night for you to call me baby” part, my daughter goes “No! Don’t sing to Baby! Sing to me!” LOL!
LOL!

So funny!

Oh. My. Gosh.
She is just precious!!!! You two are very lucky :)
Stop it. She is just too unbelievably cute for words. Have a wonderful weekend!
Such a cutie pie! I love how she’s keepng herself entertained :)
So we realized lately that the longest attention span my 20-month-old son has is for Clara videos – he just requested to watch this one 3 times. He is quite smitten! We may have to go back into the archives for more…thank you for giving me a new method for productivity!
There is nothing like a toddler in full blown music mode…my two are adults now, but back in the day, it was Madonna’s Vogue ( thanks MTV) that my daughter knew/sang and did the hand motions to-she was three. It was crazy funny :)
Does Clara ever jack the words? I used to crack up when my two sang in the car, but put what they THOUGHT they heard into the lyrics :)
Oh yes, she has hilarious Clara-versions to things. A recent great one was Old McFarmer Had A Dog (instead of Old McDonald had a farm).

My 3 year old daughter’s current favorite song is Whistle by Flo Rida. She sings it constantly and lights up instantly whenever she hears it. So embarassing…… :)
I love Karmin!!! I do love Clara’s version too though ;) She is so adorable!
Also, did she leave Granny’s with rug burn on her legs? She is loving those steps!
Haha, thankfully it’s really soft and shaggy, so no rug-related injuries took place.
xo

So cute! I’m so glad that you share these videos…they really do make my day a little brighter. I kept giggling when she was really belting out the song; so much that a coworker said “Becky, what are you doing in there?!” Haha!
That’s hilarious.

What an entrance! What a performance! Get that girl an agent!
Move over Cher and Madonna – Clara’s working the stage!
Ha!

Sort of personal- but how to you handle using cloth diapers while on trips? After your posts (and great sucess) with cloth diapers I really want to give them a try when it comes time for our family to grow- but I’m concerned about traveling.
Thanks!
When we’re staying somewhere like a hotel (or with a friend or relative) we have found that it’s great to use disposables, just because washing them in their washer (many hotels don’t even have the option available) is too much to try to juggle – but if we go to the beach for a week in a rental house with a washer and dryer, we’ll totally bring our cloth and make it work in that case :)
xo
s
Ah, that makes a ton of sense. Thanks!!
What a sweetheart and consummate professional. She sang through an eye injury too. It’s a nice kid fix I get while mine are off slaying the public school system right now. :o)
My best, Lynn
Haha!

My 2 1/2 year old son is falling in love with Clara with all these videos! lol! xox
Thank you for posting the link to the original, I am part of the paltry 6% of 40-somethings who follow your blog, and where ever that intersects with the 6% Canadians readers, and have never heard the song.
Of course I am sure if I ask my kids (8&10) when they get home, they will know exactly what it is.
I love that Clara knows and gravitates to adult music, our kids were more likely to be found singing ‘Satisfaction’ by the Rolling Stones than The Wheels on the Bus.
As suspected, my kids knew the song… well enough that they were able to sing along when I played the video, and looked at me as though I was crazy for NOT knowing it.
Confirmed, I’m old.
I love the videos of Clara!! I want you to know that I have followed you two for several years now. First, I was inspired by all of your DIY and decorating skills. (being that I LOVE doing that stuff, too…paint on my hands is my idea of FUN!!) Anyways, once I had my daughter, your blog inspired me in other ways. Like, I take her photo every week. (an idea I stole from your monthly photos of Clara) and I cried at your Clara’s year video. It inspired me to make one for my daughter. She will turn 1 in November and I have already begun that process. So, I wanted to say Thank you! Thanks for appealing to all different aspects of life..and making great ideas we can steal in all catergories! Love you guys!
ps. I have friends in Richmond, so if/when I visit I am TOTALLY saying “HI” and BEGGING for a picture together if I run into ya’ll! haha!
Hahah! I hope we run into you sometime!

I’m especially a fan of the key change towards the end. :)
So apparently I love under a rock because I have never heard this song…but Clara is a very good advertisement for Karmin because I went right to iTunes and bought her album. LOL.
* their album. ;)
She is sooo cute! As my two-year-old was falling asleep during a thunder/lightning storm last night, I heard him singing Katy Perry’s Firework song!
Haha- so cute!
xo
s
Sweet little Clara is two-timing her honey Adam Levine?!
Say it ain’t so! :)
xox
Haha- we just heard him in the car tonight and you should have seen her. It’s as if she saw Santa every time he comes on the radio. He’s definitely still her favorite. We’ll have to get that on video…
xo
s
Ahhh, that would be an awesome video! Clara is obviously smitten with him and her reaction to hearing him on the radio will probably make my head explode from the cuteness.
lol, she’s a pretty good singer for an ankle biter. And she has better hair than the lead singer of Karmin. Yikes–what’s UP with that bun on her forehead?
I am pretty sure my two year old Elise thinks that Clara is her best friend. She loves these little videos. Keep ‘em coming!
Ahhh so cute! Just wondering, does Clara like One Direction? (:
Yes, she can recognize their song when it comes on, but has yet to learn many of the words. I bet in a few weeks she’ll have the chorus down :)
xo
s
I would have watched this video no matter what, but I was really tuning in hoping to hear Clara say “cheerio!”
Haha, we’ll have to work on that!
xo
s
I watched Clara’s video but couldn’t place the song so then I clicked the you tube link and realized I love that song but never knew who sang it, so thanks for that info! Haha :) Then I went back and watched Clara’s video again…she had it spot-on! Future super star!
P.S. In the comment section under Karmin’s you tube video someone wrote “I’m here because of Young House Love”. Haha…classic :)
Hahahah! No way!
xo
s
aaand now i’m obsessed with this song. Thank you! i can’t believe how tall clara is getting!!!
