Sleeping Beauty
Burger sleeps in bed with us. Most likely you already know this. He starts off every night curled up under the covers near our feet or knees, but eventually migrates up to the spot right between our heads. Usually body under covers, head on pillow. So this is the scene I captured this morning as I got out of bed. If only the sound of my iPhone unlocking hadn’t caused him to stir. We call this one-eyed glare “the peeper.”

So cute! My cat sleeps on my pillow, and my morning she’s taking up the whole thing and my head is just on the mattress – and I wonder why I always wake up with a sore neck – lol.
I feel the exact same way in the morning as Burger does. Same way.
Ha! I love this!! Our 54 pound bulldog does the exact same thing :)
The peeper – so funny!
I adore this – our Jack Russell, Finnigan, has the same sleep routine. We love waking up to find him sandwiched between us, head on the pillows. He really has no idea he’s a dog. :)
A Burger post!! YAY! My chi doesn’t sleep on the pillow; he prefers being all the way down next to my feet so he can lick them whenever he wants.
Yeah, I know. It’s gross.
Adorable! I love the half under the covers, half out thing. Just like a person! :) My cats sleep with me too. Since I have three there’s usually one at my feet, one by my knees and one by my head. It’s a snuggle fest.
Oh I love posts about Burger! He is so cute and silly!
Up until warm weather hit my big girl (who is almost as big as I am) would start out the night with her head on the pillow next to me and sometime in the night she and my sweet boy would switch so I would wake up next to him. Now that it’s hot though she sleeps at the foot of the bed where the vent blows on her and he sleeps with his head on the pillow all night long. Neither one of them like being covered up though. Granted I have an electric mattress pad for winter so that probably keeps them plenty warm.
I wish our puppies could sleep in bed with us – but two people, a chocolate lab, and a chihuahua don’t really fit into a queen sized bed :(
And Brandon has a thing about the dogs sleeping in bed with us. So I let them sleep with me when he’s away, and my chi cuddles in bed with me every morning after Brandon leaves. It’ll be our little secret!
my dog is the same way but i have woken up with her on my head! And is burgers back paws up by his head?
Bwahahaha, totally! We laugh about his straight legged tendencies. He doesn’t do it all the time, but sometimes he basically kicks himself in the face with his back legs while he sleeps. Hilarious!

I have a chihuahua mix that looks nearly identical to your Burger. Her name is Stella and she thinks she is 100% human. She sleeps with my husband and I every night, curled up right in the bends of our knees or under the sheets. Gotta love fur-babies! And I especially love this picture you captured! I don’t know about you guys, but our Stella won’t sit still long enough to get such a good picture!
Our chihuahua/terrier mix Emmett has a similar routine – only he doesn’t work his way up to the top. That’s where the light is, you know – if he stays under the covers, maybe we’ll forget he’s there and not make him come out into the “cruel world.” LOL.
Our Boston Terrier does the same thing! Even worse, as soon as I get out of bed, he stretches out and takes up my whole side of the bed, including his head on the pillow. He looks like a little human all tucked in… Gotta love a dogs life!
Our Puggle (or Puggles-Worthington when he’s feeling fancy) sleeps! He starts the night out between my knees then migrates to our heads. PS-he’s 40 pounds,so not only is he a big boy that needs to sleep diagonally between my knees but he radiates heat like a little puppy sent from Hades.
Sarah.
My Chihuahua Lola does the same thing!! She gets under the covers when we go to bed,all the way at the bottom, and works her way up to the pillow by morning! Love it. So funny!
So cute! Hard life being a dog. :)
What a personality! Too cute. I can’t wait to have a pup of my own.
Oh I get the peeper all the time from the cat. I work from home some and love sitting in the sunroom to work. So the cat comes out here and sleeps on the sofa and if I make too much noise on the laptop, I get the peeper and a kind of glare – shouldn’t disturb our babies when they are trying to sleep!
Our 70 pound labradoodle Alfie loves sharing our bed! Every night he waits at the foot of the bed letting out little cries until we let him up (never under the covers though, too much pooch hair!). We’ve woken up in the morning with about 6 inches of space each and Alfie sprawled out between us horizontally on our king size bed. So spoiled, what a ruff life!
Ha! This is so funny! My 50 lbs. Goldendoodle wouldn’t do so well in bed with us, but I do know FOR SURE that if we woke him up from sleeping or a nap, he’ll “peep” at us for about a half of a second and then he’s up and bounding around and ready for the world to play with him! I guess that’s what happens when you’re only 10 months old! :)
That is so cute…we have a small shih tzu and I love that he sleeps on our bed. My favorite thing is when he dreams and starts barking in his sleep and twitching. We got him before we had our twins, he’ll always be my first baby :)
Oh how cute! Chloe is the EXACT same way!
Our dog does the same! So cute
Oh my!! That is just like my chihuahua/terrier, Paco. He starts off at our feet and somehow ends up by our heads and MUST be under the covers. I’ve gotten used to the fact that my sheets are always covered in little hairs. Small price to pay for the love you get from your pet :)
Our two English Springers aren’t technically allowed in bed, but we usually wake up to find both of them have snuck into bed in the middle of the night. Unfortunately that’s 80 pounds of sprawled-out dog hogging most of the bed! They’re good snugglers, though, so it works out ok.
Aww… Our 2 Chihuahuas sleep in our bed too. One of them, Penny, likes to be the “little spoon” and she’s such a snoozer, I usually have to carry her downstairs in the morning to go outside. Whoever said Chihuahuas are hyper, high-energy dogs, obviously hasn’t met very many Chihuahuas.
I’ve been known to give this same look. Ha ha. But i def cannot get my legs all crazy like that. Contortionist pup.
My Yorkie Maddie sleeps with me. I have decorative pillows than two stiffer pillows. My pillow and hers are behind the stiff ones. She lets me know when it’s bedtime because I have to pull her pillow out. Then she climbs up there and goes to sleep. She’s so funny.
Every time you post a Burger in Bed pic, that’s what I think of. :)
My chihuahua does the same! She makes an annoying sound too if I don;t let her under the covers. My big dogs will sleep with me if my hubby isn’t home when I go to bed.
OMG, too cute!!! I love Burger!!! Chuy does the exact same thing, starts at the feet and ends up right next to me. He also thinks he’s a human and sleeps the same way LOL
Our chihuahua has been exiled from sleeping with anyone at night because he bites toes in his sleep. However, I’ll let him sleep in the bend of my knees if I take a nap during the day, and he spends most of his time curled up asleep under as many blankets as possible near whoever is home at the time.
Oh yeah, Burger loves the “bend of the knees” area. We somehow dubbed the bend formed at your waist as your “crock” (weird, I know) so that area has gotten the name “knee crock.” So a typical conversation before bed is “Is Burger in here already?” “Yep, he’s in my knee crock.” At least we never claimed to be normal…
-John
Our little Jack Russell/Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua(?) mix, Buddy, does the same thing! But instead of crock, we say he’s in our boat.
Adogable!! My Pug sleeps with me every night. He stays above covers behind my knees. <3
lol awww makes me love yall even more! many folks sneer at pets in beds… haha love it!!
Adorable! Our pup Dudley loves sleeping right on our butts, or curled up between knees. If we wake him up he either gives us a very mean look or growls at us! We are trying to break the growling habit, but he was very badly abused before we got him, so we just try and give him a little extra love. Burger is way too adorable!!
Our chihuahua does the same thing. We force him to get out of bed after breakfast and before showers, then he stars at us & does yoga stretches for 2-3 minutes. He needs to get up before I blow dry my hair, because he likes to curl up on my lap. I call him “blow dry bub”.
love burger! so much.
I love Burger!!!
My little dachshund does the same thing too! If I wake him up in the morning he gives me the stink eye. I love how dogs have a personality too. :)
My kitten, Louie, is a total snuggler. He wil usually end up IN my hair (my hair goes about 5″ past my shoulders) and kneads it all night long so I wake up with a nest in it the next morning. He also loves to put his head on the pillow when I’m on my side and puts his paw across my side. He thinks his 6lb self is the big spoon..hahaha!
As I was browsing the internet today, looking for a “how to” site to paint an old bookshelf, I came across your site. All I can say is wow! It is very inspirational and fun. Thank you for sharing all of your hard work :)
haha…..cute!!
Hi Petersik’s!
Every night I tuck our dog into bed downstairs, I do it with a heavy heart because I wish he could sleep right next to us in our bed too! We frequently nap together on the couch, but so many things online say that they need their on space at night. I had no idea why but just assumed it’s cos they need to ‘go’?
I was watching Dr Oz the other day and they recorded some lady that slept with her dog every night – apparently she only gets about 4 hours of sleep every night because without her really knowing, she woke up every time her dog woke up. And she didn’t get enough deep sleep so it was causing her exhaustion… ??
Anyway. I’m still super jealous and wish Maui could sleep in our bed :( but he squeaks when he dreams so that could be disturbing…
Love your blog dearly!!
Aw thanks VV! I think some dogs (especially bigger ones) might be hard to sleep with and might make more noise/wake up more. Burger is such a stealth little sleeper (he continues to sleep in until around noon most days- haha) so thankfully he doesn’t bother us!

Our puggle Guinness LOVES to sleep in bed with us and while we love snuggling with him, his horizontal sleeping habits definitely impede our good night’s sleep. We recently instituted a rule that Guinness can only sleep with us on Saturday nights since Sunday is a sleep in day for us. Now if only Guinness could read the calendar because I really can’t his sad puppy dog eyes on the 6 other days of the week when he has to sleep on his own!
I love cuddling my pets!! Though, they have COMPLETELY taken over my bed. I have two pitbulls, one that sleeps at my feet, and the other who sleeps either between my boyfriend and I, or solely on my outer side. The cat snuggles in between our pillows. Wouldn’t have it any other way either! Burger is very cute btw!
Haha! Our yorkie does this too! He is either snuggled up in our legs or if he gets hot he will poke his little head out on my pillow. <3 Love little dog snuggles.
Burger is SOOOO CUTE!!! He is like a little person and not a dog. I wish I had his “good life”. Thanks for sharing his beauty shot with us.
I also have a sleeping beauty at home, though I’m afraid we can’t let him into our bed! He’s a Spanish greyhound we adopted six months ago. Unfortunately not many greyhounds in Spain get to make it after they are useless for hunting. Ours used to belong to a hunter who decided to abandon him due to his age! He’s become our “little” angel and we adore him as you may see if you turn to the blog I’ve created to let people know what a blessing it is to share our lives with him ( by the way, his name is Leo). My lovely and precious Leo.

All the best. Marta
He looks like a keeper to me!

After reading all the comments, I’m glad to know we’re not the only ones who let our furbaby cuddle with us in bed! Molly starts out by my feet and migrates up as the night progresses. I will say that sometimes she does impede my ability to get a good nights sleep – especially if I’m sleeping on the couch (when the hubs snoring is too much to bear) and she insists on being riiight next to/on top of me.
Awe, too cute. Our Yorkie loves being in “the big bed” but I never like when he sleeps with us because he snores and he takes up all the room! Plus one of us ends up squishing him or almost kicking him off the bed! Which isn’t good for a little dog’s legs!
how YOU doin’?
I heart Burguer! So cute!! Just keeps making me laugh =D
He is hilarious! Our chi is the exact same way! It can be 95 outside and if there is a blanket to snuggle up in, he’s there! The moment my husband and I are on the couch he’s digging his way under the nearest blanket. We have to remind ourselves often that he is in there because unless you saw him crawl in there you can’t see he’s there! As for sleeping in bed with us…he occasionally gets away with it, but time after time I wake up with a sore back because I contort myself to let HIM hog up the KING SIZE bed!
