Come On Ride The Train
We recently took Clara to one of the Children’s Museum of Richmond locations. In particular, the one that features a “Safari Train” that Clara loves taking a spin on. And based to the resulting pictures, she’s not the only one who enjoyed the ride.

Though I shouldn’t give Sherry a hard time about her enthusiasm. Just check out this photo from Clara’s second ride.

We’re totally those parents.

We need to try that train again…When we took my daughter this summer she screamed so much when we got in the car that we didn’t even get to ride!
Aw man, we definitely saw some other kids who weren’t as happy to ride! Clara is obsessed with cars, trucks, and trains. Obsessed I tell you.

Yeah, our Caroline LOVES her some trains now…so we do need to try that again when we go back to CMoR. BTW…she LOVES that You Tube video “the number train” you guys blogged about the other week. It is great! :) THANKS!
haha, you guys are awesome parents!
Our son loves the Zoo Choo at the Mill Mountain Zoo in Roanoke, so we’ll have to keep this one in mind next time we visit Richmond. And, did you all have somewhere fancy to go? I noticed Sherry’s wearing nail polish!
Haha, I made this weird resolution to myself to put nail polish on because it just feels like “me time” – even if it’s just five minutes between putting Clara to bed and doing a house project – there’s this weird sensation that I’m squeezing in some time for myself.

Good for you, Sherry! I count showering as me time…and running any sort of errand without the boys.
Awesome pictures. I can’t wait to (hopefully) live in a place that offers more like this for our son!
“Those” parents are the best kind of parents!
Adorable :) I love how you both make that open-mouthed expression!!
I could eat that sweet Clara up! She is so cute! I so wish we had a Children’s Museum close by!
What a fun train ride for everyone! Which location has a train? We are planning a visit the first weekend in Feb, but haven’t been able to figure out which location would be better for our 18 mo old. He’s also obsessed with trains/cars and trucks.
The littler one in Short Pump has it.

My boys LOVE that train. They are finally big enough to ride by themselves, which is great, because they go nut-so with pushing the buttons which make the animal noises. My boys call C-MOR Central “big apple tree” and C-MOR Short Pump “little apple tree” – they have a blast.
I’m a long way from being a parent, but I’m sure I’ll be one of “those parents,” too. And I think they’re the best kind :)
I’m one of “those parents” too I fear. :)
Also — your Children’s Museum looks amazing! The one here in Tucson is nice, but pretty tiny. No cool trains.
Is that the same guy sitting behind/in front of you on each ride? Looks like y’all weren’t the only ecstatic parents!! FUN!
Haha, that’s our cousin Travis and his daughter Elsa. They came with us to have some train fun!
xo,
s
I was just going to say the same thing, Rebecca! Hahahaha.
Which one of the Richmond Children’s museums has the train? I’d love to drive down from NoVa and take my train-obsessed son. I would hate to go to the wrong location and disappoint him.
It’s the littler one (the one at Short Pump). Hope it helps!

s
I love that there is a place called Short Pump in Virginia.
Haha. I call it Shortie Fist Pump. Because I like to bring a little Jersey to VA when I can.

My daughter keeps asking to go back and ride the train with the animals, she loved it! I have to get back out there soon.
Was that cousin Travis (if I’m remembering his name correctly) and his little one in the pictures, too?
Yes! Great memory! He’s with his daughter Elsa (Clara’s BFF for life).
xo,
s
Just took my nieces and nephews there last month when we visited from Michigan. What a great children’s museum! I actually loved the smaller size of the Short Pump one vs. the Richmond one. OBSESSED with the dress up area… :)
Haha, you guys are hilarious! Priceless expressions :)
Looks like you weren’t the only adults who enjoyed it. The guy in your photos when back for seconds it appears!
Haha- that’s our cousin Travis and his daughter Elsa. They were totally having just as much fun. Haha.
xo,
s
I love that there is the same dad/daughter in all of your pictures! He is smiling for the camera in the second picture :) and looks like his is trying to duck out of site in a few of the shots. Then it’s time for the second ride and John just jumps in the car in front of the same dad/daughter. They could not escape the Petersik’s camera! LOL, I wonder if he has any clue his train ride would be shared with the world?
Haha- that’s our cousin Travis and his daughter Elsa! They came along with us!

I LOVE that you’re those parents! Mostly because I know my husband and I are also ‘those parents’ to our 8-month-old daughter. (I enjoy her kiddie music a little too much.) Glad to know we’re not alone :)
Yay! I’m jazzed about the train, too, just looking at your photos! You three are so great!
She is precious! From someone with no kids, it’s pictures like this that get those maternal instincts going :) You have such a sweet family!
My sister takes my 3.5-year-old niece there all the time. At some point in the past year, my niece told my sister that she wanted to ride the train all by herself!
First solo ride: sitting up straight, facing forward, clutching the handlebars obediently.
Second solo ride: leaning back, arms propped up to the side, totally chillin’.
Hahahaha. Hilarious.

So cute! I have to ask where you got Clara’s headband? I have been wanting to try to DIY a similar one for my daughter because I can’t find any cute ones like that! It’s a fabric flower, right?
Yes, it’s from an etsy vendor! Wish I had the link for you, but I bet there are so many cute ones on there. Love it so much!

You guys looked like yall had some great fun!!! We have a nice childrens museum here in portsmouth that we havent taken our son to yet but we reaaaaaally want to. Now for the random part of my comment… It is me and my wifes anniversary this weekend and we are going to Richmond for the day. It would score me major brownie points if there were some way we could meet you guys maybe at Home Depot or a thrift store or whatever. If you say no I would completely understand since you dont know me from Adam. But my wife loves you guys, always talks about you and would love to meet you. So let me know and either way just wanted to let you know we love your blog and it has really inspired us for our own little home. Bye!
Aw that’s so sweet Kyle! We’d love to bump into you in Richmond this weekend! We have a ton of book stuff and some family things going on (relatives from up north are coming down on Sat & Sun) so we can’t really organize anything formal. But Richmond is a small city so who knows if we’ll run into you guys while buying book supplies at Home Depot or the thrift store! Happy anniversary!
xo,
s
Well thanks anyway. It would be great to run into yall. Hope your family time is great!
Thanks Kyle! Have fun!
xo,
s
Hey, you earned brownie points just for having the courage to ask! Plus you got Sherry & John to wish us a happy anniversary.
S&J, hopefully we can take a later tripe to Richmond and bring our son because he’d love the museum. This time around though I’ve got some shopping to do… diversity Thrift, here I come!
Wahoo! You’re going to love Diversity Thrift and the museum! And we’re at both of them all the time, so we might just bump into you! Haha.

I had a feeling the $herdog would be the enthusiastic train rider!
Awwww, you guys are just adorable!
Cool watch Sherry!!
Thanks! I used to wear it all the time when I was nursing so I decided to break it out again. Haha. Not that I have any nursing to do anymore.
xo,
s
Cuteness!! Although, from the teaser on the main blog I was envisioning Burger zooming around ontop of a miniature train set.
Haha. That I’d pay to see.
xo,
s
Love the satelite location of CMOR! It’s great for our 2yo. While prego I could hang in a general area and pretty much see everything! The big location is better for our 4 yo!
And thanks for the brain worm, I’ll be singing that song ALL afternoon!!
Who says you’re not put together, Sherry? Look at that manicure and gorgeous watch…and I don’t see any paint in your hair :)
Haha- it’s in the back! And the dark nails hide all the paint/thinset/grout under them! Haha. Tricks.
xo,
s
“Come on ride the train, hey ride it woo-woo!”. Between this post and the TFF post I got some groovy music looping in my head now.
Sherry, what nail polish do you have on? I love it!!! I have an unhealthy addiction, but I’m 100% aware! And the darker shades hide the infamous ‘paint under nails’ issue. Now if there were just a way to mask the never ending ‘paint in hair’ problem.
Haha – yes! They hide grout and thinset I’ve learned too! It’s Essie’s School Of Hard Rocks. And I’m with you on the painted hair thing!
xo,
s
I think that’s great! I hope we are “those” kind of parents one day :)
cute, we love the Children Museum! But now I have this song stuck in my head…again, I used this song title for a post I did a month ago and the song has been in my head since about a week ago. lol http://sugaree314.blogspot.com/2011/12/cmon-n-ride-it-train.html
Haha, now it’s in my head.

Too cute! What is it with kids and trains? I think it’s their can-do attitude…the whole “I think I can..” thing.
Super random something that I thought about while channel surfing the other night…Sherry, does anyone ever tell you that you look like Amanda Peet? And I mean that as a sincere compliment because I’ve always thought she was pretty and striking with her huge, welcoming smile…like yours!
Gotta love a Celebrity Doppleganger!
~Laura
Hah, yes I used to get her all the time! And then I got Natalie Portman for a while and now it’s Rachel McAdams and the girl from Game Of Trones. It’s funny how things go in phases.
xo,
s
I always thought Amanda Peet too.
I firmly believe that all that enthusiasm will make your kid a happier, more positive adult. You go with your bad selves!
LOVE the third to last photo contrast of the Dad with his daughter versus Sherry & Clara. Hahaha.
and maybe I should read and see it’s your cousin and his girl. I just love Clara’s face versus hers at that very second haha.
Haha- too funny.
xo,
s
These pictures are adorable! It looks like you had a lot of fun. I can tell Clara had a wonderful time with “those parents”.
You want to know something sad? I’m one of those people too… and I don’t even have kids to use as an excuse!
By sad, I totally mean awesome ;-)
Amen sista. Totally awesome is right.

Cute Sherry – it’s Beth (photographer) – Brycen and I were just there last week! Don’t you think that train is a little “jerky”? It gives me a headache! On another note – How is the same guy in front of you and behind John? stalker? Anyway, lets go together sometime. :)
Hah- we totally need to go together! And yes, that train is rough! But for some reason it makes me laugh so hard when I get whipped around! That guy is actually our cousin (he came with us with his daughter Elsa and his wife Cat and their son Edison). It’s fun for the whole family. Haha.
xo,
s
Is that your BFF Cat’s husband Travis? Looks like he’s having a blast as well! Enough to ride twice in fact.
Haha, yes! We took Cat, Trav, Elsa, and Edison to the museum with us!
xo,
s
Zebra photo-bomb! Awesome!
BWAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH. Comment of the day.
xo,
s
You’re totally those adorable parents!
If you three make a trip up my way, there is a train at Tyson’s II that goes through the food court!
Ooh that sounds like a good time.
xo,
s
You two are adorkable.
seriously, love your enthusiasm! i will totally be cheesing it up when we hit up disneyland this spring!
We have a 19 month old daughter and after years of saying we wouldn’t be we are TOTALLY “those parents”!! What can we say, 8 years of trying, an adoption process, and a sweet angel comes along and melts our hearts and we just. can’t. help it. :)
Question: I thought I read a money-saving/makeup post awhile back about Sherry not wearing nail polish. I was totally inspired, but do I spot dark nails in these pics? They look great, but wondering if your stance on nails/makeup has changed?
Yes! I have decided since I have an issue with me time that the five minutes it takes me to put on nail polish is me time. So I’m making myself do it between Clara/blog/book stuff. Haha. I tried to make showers my me time but they keep getting interrupted. Haha. But when you have wet nails, things have to wait at least five minutes. Oh a desperate mom and her antics…
xo,
s
Where is your watch from?? Love it (and the dark nails)!
Thanks! It’s Michael Kors! That was my breastfeeding gift to myself since I needed to know what time it was all the time. Hah.
