Holiday Card Outtakes
By now you’ve probably seen our 2011 holiday card (if not, check it out here).

The picture is actually two shots Photoshopped together, since we’ve pretty much given up on getting a good shot of Clara and Burger together at the same time (unless our definition of “good shot” is Clara grabbing for the blur that is Burger as he runs off). So here’s the original shot of Clara all by her lonesome.

She loved the ribbon, which meant we got lots of good shots to choose from. We selected a good ol’ smiling one because we thought it was basically the epitome of Clara. And we ended up flipping it because it helped Burger and the type fit better on the card. But here are a bunch of others that gave us a good smile too.

Burger, on the other hand, wasn’t quite as versatile. We got his standard “you told me to sit, I did, so why don’t you fork over the treat already” look.

But we opted for this licking-the-lips shot instead (which was actually captured while he was eating said treat). At least he was forever immortalized while enjoying himself.

Happy holidays to you guys! May your days be filled with family, fun, and treats!

Merry Christmas to you four!! Enjoy, Clara will be a blast this year with opening. Cherish every moment. Blessings, Suni, Doug & Calla.
Best wishes to all of you. Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you guys! Adorable pics! My daughter who just turned 13 mid October still does that with her big toe (cranks it upward). Hee hee hee.
Adorable!! Merry Christmas!
LOVE the one with the tongue sticking out! :) Happy Holidays!
My favorite is the tongue-and-toes shot. (When I showed my husband, he asked who it was; I told him it’s the Young House baby.)
Adorable! Merry Christmas to you and yours and all the best for an amazing 2012!!
Where do you get Clara’s adorable headbands? I love them and want a couple for my bald baby girl!
They were a gift, so unfortunately we don’t recall exactly where. They were from Katie at lovesoflife.com, so maybe she could hook you up. Or you might be able to find something similar on Etsy.

Merry Christmas to you guys! Your blog provides a nice break in my busy work day and I really appreciate it :)
how did you do this did you flip the picture’s. well however you did it nice job.
Yep, we flipped the picture (we wanted the text on the left side of the car) and combined the photo of Burger and Clara. Glad you like it!

Merry Christmas! The pictures are so cute!!
Awww that adorable! Clara is so cute. :) Merry Christmas! Even though I look forward to reading your two posts every day (hitting refresh multiple times in the afternoon with fingers crossed), it sounds like you guys have quite a lot on your plate! Good luck and have fun!!
You guys are so cute! What a great blog! Clara is just a couple months older than my little boy (number six) and I love seeing all you do with her. Definitely inspiring me to take more pics! Well, have a wonderful Christmas celebration with your fam~you all are very blessed!
The colors are great! So fun. And Clara is a piece of work – I’m sure she had a blast in all that ribbon!
how did you print them out to send to family? DIY or kinkos? Any tips for printing at home (photo papers vs carsick, ink types)
We used winkflash.com to order a bunch (they include free envelopes and are one of the few companies that don’t make you use their borders/designs (they just print the card out on the paper of your choice without messing with the design).

heehee “photo papers vs carsick” that’s an image I don’t want. Autocorrect FTW!
Hope you don’t mind my jumping in here, but I also DIY our family card each year, and I just make them a standard photo size, jpg the entire file, and email them to Wal-Mart for printing. Ready in an hour (or mailed to your home), they look great, and it’s super cheap!
Love your Christmas card – so fun! I’m trying to imagine what my pup, Beacon, would do with all that ribbon! Merry Christmas John, Sherry, Clara and Burger!
Clara is so photogenic! I think your holiday card came out beautifully!! Love all of the ribbon and can only imagine what you have planned for it (another ribbon chandelier perhaps?)
Merry Everything and Happy Always Petersik Family. Thank you for inspiring me and making me smile, laugh, plan, and scheme daily.
Cutest card ever! So ‘Petersik’!!! Merry Christmas!!! =)
Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel, Frohe Weihnachten

You guys rock the/my Blogworld and Clara is sooo
cute in her Ribbon-Cristmas-Outfit!
Have a wonderful and blessed
**Christmas celebration**with your family

Great card – and thank goodness for these days of Photoshop! Happy holidays to all of you and good luck with everything you’ve got going on – wow. May you find some peace (relaxation) this season, for real.
:)
So cute!!!
Very cute! The ol’ dog-licking-the-nose-trick is actually considered a calming signal. Although super cute it usually means the pup is a bit uncomfortable with the whole thing. Small price to pay though for a super-sweet Christmas card!
Haha, that’s Burger’s sign for “give me that treat!” Whenever we ask him to sit for pics we basically hold a treat right above the camera so he’ll look at it and stay put, so he sits there gazing longingly and licking his chops!

Haha, lucky you! All I get is a puddle of drool on my floor.
Clara= Happiest. Girl. Ever.
I’ll take two, please. LOL
Merry Christmas to a lucky family!
Merry Christmas!
By the way… I was blog-reading again before bed which gave me a funny/crazy dream about you three! I dreamed I was babysitting Clara while you two worked on your kitchen cabinets.
She was just adorable and well behaved… but your cabinets weren’t! After all the layers of paint, the doors weren’t fitting back onto the cabinets anymore! GAH!
Aw man- let’s hope it wasn’t foreshadowing for some cabinet disaster!

Oh, Burger! Clara is super duper adorable but Burger always melts me with his deadpan expressions. So, so cute! If we tried to do this to Angus, we be chasing a ribbon-trailing, hyper-ventilating Great Dane all over the house. I love it!
Awwwwh Merry Christmas!
I love the first outtake of Clara where her big toe is doing a ‘thumbs up’. My daughter who is 2 months younger than Clara does the same. So cute!
Merry Christmas John, Sherry, Clara and Burger!
How precious! I love all these photos of Clara and Burger. Great card this year!
CUTE! And, I’m jealous. If I had your Photoshopping skills, my Christmas card experience ( and my poor kids) would be much more pleasant!
All the pics were great!!! And awesome colors!! Enjoy your holidays! Well in between projects!!
fantastic – thanks for always bringing a smile to my face!
Love all the outtakes–especially the one of Clara sticking her tongue out!!
so cute!
Happy holidays!!
Sooo adorable!!! Thanks for sharing!
We tried our own little photoshoot for our card this year. It failed miserably, and both my daughter and I started crying at one point! An outtake of that occurrence my be just what I need to post to the blog. I should totally post my failed projects!
Fantastic Picture!!! Merry Christmas!!!!
Photoshop was a GREAT idea!
I had a very hard time trying to get my 4 little faces looking normal…. didn’t totally succeed…
(Poor Yoda – I only got half of him in the shot – something had to give!)
God Jul, Petersiks! Best Wishes from Sweden!
Merry Christmas!
Great photo! How did you manage to Photoshop them together so seamlessly!? I’ve stared at it for 10 minutes looking for where one photo starts and the other ends.
Thankfully the jumble of ribbons was so chaotic, cutting out Burger entirely and slipping him into the ribbon pile with Clara seemed to work pretty well! John even added a slight shadow behind Burger to make him look like he was right there with Clara in the room instead of cut and pasted!

The third outtake is my super-fave of all the pics, including your photo-shopped final product. Love her expression and the angle.
cute card! love the outtakes! wanted to give you a heads-up (Sherry). we had PJ day at school this week and all of the kids watched The Polar Express. anyway, long story short (obviously…oops), i had to buy some matching PJs and found navy pants with little chihuahuas on them at Target. they all have antlers and little neon shirts. they’re adorable. and the kids loved them- thought Burger might too!
Adorable! I think Clara needs some. And maybe John and I too. Haha.

There is nothing more fun that a toddler, a pup and plenty of ribbon. I thought out-takes might include a trail of ribbon destruction down the hallway (probably more my house than yours!). Thanks for sharing your celebrations and traditions – Merry Christmas Petersiks! Pip, Matt & Cam in the Australian Xmas heat :)
What a fun card design! I bet it was a fun shoot to do as well! Merry Christmas!
P.S. Apparently I love exclamation points!
I love the one with her tongue sticking out! The best part is that her foot is jutting out in front and her big toe seems to be giving us all a “thumbs” up :)
You know, I’ve been married for 9+ years and swear every year that *this* is the year I’ll send out cards lol. I thought that I would for sure this year since I got good pics of my kids together, but seeing this cute outtake has made me remember that alas, I forgot another year!
What an adorable, photogenic little Clara you have! The one of her sticking out her tongue is priceless…and love your little doggy photos too!
Love it. John is really quite the photoshop genius. I also love the photo of Clara licking her lips also. So did you hold a treat above her nose also to capture the moment? *Winks*
Ha! There actually were no raisins involved in the making of this photo. Can’t say the same for her monthly pics. :)
-John
These are so cute! Definitely an idea I will have to stash in my memory bank (or pin to Pinterest) for the future!
beautiful card !! How did you get the colors to look so bright?! Any special lens or filter?
Nope! Just probably helped using natural light against the muted background.
-John
I was going through the posts I missed her on Young House Life and I realized something about the final photo choice of burger—he looks like the bat from the movie Fern Gully! I wanted to laugh so hard, then go watch the movie :)
hahaha- he totally does! What was that bat’s name? Was it Petrie? I loved him!

Aha.. looking lovely
