Aminals!
Last weekend we took Clara to the Metro Richmond Zoo so she could see some of her favorite animals in the flesh fur.

The highlight, of course, was watching her actually pet a giraffe. She has grown to love giraffes (partly because they became an unintentional “staple” in her nursery) but mostly because she’s obsessed with this stuffed giraffe (made by Jellycat) that she named Gee and sleeps with every night. So we say they’re her “Favorite Animal, Wild” (since Burger would be offended if we didn’t also say that dogs are her “Favorite Animal, Domestic.”)

She also especially enjoyed the monkeys (especially these that share a name with her “Nonna” – who is Sherry’s mom, Diana). She has even learned to say “Ooh ooh, ahh” when she sees a monkey. Not sure where the second “ahh” went, but we’ll take it.

She was also beyond excited to see the black bear. There may have even been a little bit of dancing involved.

I’m not sure how I missed this whole Life section before, but I just spent several minutes of work-time reading back through them! Can I just tell you that her little “happy bear dance” is adorbs! love her :)
Glad to see that Clara had a great time :) Our daughter LOVES going to the zoo. We’re lucky to have a great zoo here in San Antonio. Last year we took a road trip to California and got to visit the Sacramento Zoo where they have a great giraffe exhibit. She was in heaven!
My baby, who is almost 2, but still my baby, Maddi, says “Ooh, ooh, ahh” too! It cracks me up every time! Love it!
Something about giraffes that kids love. My little one is only 5 months old, and the toy she laughs at the most is a Baby Einstein giraffe rattle. And, just yesterday we broke out the rubber Sophie the Giraffe teething toy and she went nuts! Can’t wait to take her to the zoo one day!
It looks like you all had a great time. I saw the giraffe stuffed toy in another picture awhile ago and recognized it right away! I have twins, one has the jellycat cow, appropriately named Cow and the other twin has the giraffe, named George. :) They have been my kids’ loveys since they were tiny!
Haha, I love that the cow is named Cow. Hilarious.

That first picture is precious! Also, Clara’s outfit is great. Does it come in adult sizes? =)
Haha, I wish!

So sweet!
When my daughter was three or four, we went to a wildlife park where we could pet giraffes from a platform. One of them tried to eat her hair, which made me laugh. But she wasn’t amused by The Giraffe Incident, as it came to be known.
Still, no lasting harm done. : )
So fun! My husband and I took our nephew to the Richmond Metro Zoo for his 3rd birthday (he’s 6 now) and really had a blast. I think my husband was as excited, if not more so, as our nephew to get to feed the giraffe!! We also got to pet a baby zebra while we were there. It was so cool.
We just took our son to the National Zoo a couple of weeks ago and it was great (and the drive from Richmond wasn’t too bad, either). Unfortunately we were under some time constraints and didn’t get to see everything we wanted to, but we got to see a giant panda and watch an orangutan cross over the “O-Line” (check it out on the National Zoo’s website – totally awesome!!) David, our son, really loved the armadillo and the meerkats – he even picked out a meerkat stuffed animal at the gift shop! He named it Larry – or at least that’s what it sounds like he is saying! (he’s 14 1/2 mo) The best part is that admission is free (although parking was like $20, but b/c we went with Nannie and Uncle J, we split the cost which made it cheaper than taking the metro!).
Glad that Clara enjoyed the zoo and that she got to pet a giraffe! So cool :o)
I love this section! I also love Clara’s little outfit- I want to turn her shirt into a pillow! LOL-I am on a major yellow and gray kick right now! :P

So many things about this made me think of YHL. Clara’s love of giraffes, your love (and I am sure Clara’s too one day) of ceramic animals, and I saw if on Pintrest. Only thing not to love is the price.
Love it! Especially because his head is over the shade! So cute.

Awww. I’m so glad she got to pet a real life “Gee”! That’s too awesome. The picture of her and the bear, adorable! Glad you guys got to make it to the zoo.
We love the Jellycats – they are the main staple of our store. Clara has exceptional taste:)
I just stumbled across this on Etsy, and it immediately reminded me of Clara. http://www.etsy.com/listing/72847732/vintage-brass-giraffe

What is the book (or books) that you have where she’s learned animals from? Like the one that has the sloth that says “slowly, slowly”?
A lot of the farm animals aren’t from one specific book, since lots of kids books have cows, horses, etc, etc (though Eric Carle’s “The Very Busy Spider” is a great example). The sloth one is a series of book at the library called Animal Babies (I believe the sloth was in Animal Babies in Rainforests). Right now we’ve got Animal Babies in Grasslands checked out.
